The MTET 2026 eligibility criteria is based on NCTE guidelines and includes both pre-service and in-service teachers. Candidates must meet the required educational qualifications for Paper I or Paper II.

- Higher Secondary (12th) with 50% marks + 2-Year D.El.Ed
- OR 12th with 45% marks + D.El.Ed (as per NCTE norms)
- OR 12th with 50% + 4-Year B.El.Ed
- OR 12th with 50% + Diploma in Education (Special Education)
- OR Graduation + 2-Year D.El.Ed
- OR Candidates pursuing teacher training courses (recognized by NCTE/RCI)
For Paper II (Classes VI–VIII)
- Graduation + 2-Year D.El.Ed
- OR Graduation/Post Graduation with 50% + B.Ed
- OR Graduation with 45% + B.Ed (as per NCTE norms)

- OR 12th with 50% + B.A.Ed / B.Sc.Ed
